Why is the word "feminist" still a controversial word? I asked myself this after a co-worker whispered to me “Are you a feminist?” as if I were a criminal. I began to explore why “feminism,” a movement that gave us so much positive change was still a controversial word? I decided to ask the feminists themselves about this historic social movement so I could learn the details. I spent several years, beginning in 2004, traveling the country and interviewing the feminists who made this revolution happen. Why didn’t I already know these stories? Why wasn’t I taught these stories in high school? This documentary film tells the story of the women's liberation movement from the years 1963-1970. It explorers the details of the feminist revolution and connects the controversy around "feminism" with our incomplete memory of what really happened. Feminists interviewed include, Betty Friedan, Robin Morgan, Eleanor Smeal, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton. Sonia Pressman Fuentes, Richard Graham, Frances M. Beal, Vivian Rothstein, and many others.
